Level 2 Home Charging

A Level 2 charger runs on a 240-volt dedicated circuit and typically adds around 20–40 miles of range per hour, depending on the car and the charger. That is enough to fill most cars overnight. We install hardwired wall connectors such as Tesla Wall Connector and ChargePoint, as well as NEMA 14-50 outlets for plug-in chargers.

Load calculation first

We check that your service can carry the charger. If it can’t, options include a panel upgrade, a smaller charging current or an energy management system that shares capacity.

Right circuit size

The circuit is sized for the charger’s continuous load, typically a 40–60 amp circuit, with the correct wire size for the distance.

Permit and inspection

EV chargers need a permit. We file it, and the inspector checks the installation before you use it.

Rebates and Rates

EV Charging in Older Altadena Homes

Many Altadena homes have 100-amp services, and an EV charger is often the load that tips them over. We’ll tell you honestly whether you need a panel upgrade or whether load management can avoid one. See 200 amp panel upgrades for EV chargers and NEC 2026 EV charger rules.

For Altadena addresses, permits come from LA County Public Works Building & Safety (Altadena is unincorporated, so not the City of Pasadena or LADBS). Pasadena, South Pasadena, San Marino and La Cañada Flintridge each have their own building departments. We pull the permit and meet the inspector.

Pricing: A standard service call fee applies. We quote it on the phone before we dispatch and credit it against the work if you go ahead. You get a firm written price once we have assessed the job.

We serve Altadena and nearby: Pasadena, South Pasadena, San Marino, La Cañada Flintridge, Sierra Madre, Arcadia and Eagle Rock. See all areas we serve.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does EV charger installation take?

Most installs take a few hours to a day once the permit is issued. Panel upgrades add time for utility coordination.

Do I need a 200 amp panel for an EV charger?

Not always. It depends on your existing loads. A load calculation tells us whether the charger fits, whether to reduce its current, or whether a panel upgrade or load management is needed.

Can you install a Tesla Wall Connector?

Yes. We install Tesla Wall Connectors and other hardwired chargers, as well as 240V outlets for plug-in units.

Is a permit required for a home EV charger?

Yes. A new 240V circuit for an EV charger needs an electrical permit and inspection.
