Ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) fail more frequently in coastal communities due to the unique environmental challenges posed by salt air and high humidity. These devices are highly sensitive because they are designed to monitor current imbalances to prevent shocks.

In coastal areas, GFCIs encounter the following issues:
